Bonding Wooden Steps Underwater
Bonding Wooden Steps Underwater
If you want to bond wooden dock steps to other wood or concrete or metal underwater, please follow the steps below:
- Using Mr. Sticky's Underwater Glue, following the directions on the tube, dispense no more than 1/2 tube of epoxy. (Mixing more than 1/2 tube at one time in warm temperatures may cause an undesired rapid cure).
- Coat both parts to be bonded with the mixed adhesive. Do not coat just one part and assume that it will transfer glue to the other part, this often results in failures as enough glue does not wet the second part.
- Imbed in the glue of one part pieces of fishing line to act as a spacer so that the parts to be bonded will remain slightly apart when bonding, preventing the glue from being squeezed out of the joint.
- Put the parts together with light pressure and allow to cure until hardened.
- Clean undesired glue before it cures with denatured alcohol (above water!).
- Store your glue in a cool or cold place for longer shelf life.
